How to turn 700M users into *believers* 💙
Learn why the world's biggest AI company is selling feelings, not features...
OpenAI has 700 million weekly users.
And they just launched their first global brand campaign.
Instead of the predictable sci-fi cities, glowing robots or lines of code… they made ads about PULL-UPS and DATE NIGHTS.
All shot on 35mm film showing cinematic slices of everyday life.
Why did they skip the sci-fi spectacle?
Because customers see themselves in the story → They connect AI to their goal (not the tech) → “This is too complicated” disappears → They’re ready to buy.
That’s why, as a solopreneur, your edge isn’t the tools you use, it’s how you make clients see and feel what’s possible.
❌ The *story* is what most solopreneurs miss
Think about your marketing.
Your website. Your emails. Your sales pages.
Are you leading with what you do? Or how people feel after working with you?
OpenAI could’ve showed:
Processing speed
Accuracy metrics
New GPT-5 capabilities
Instead, they showed someone keeping a promise to themselves (the pull-up) and someone trying to impress a date (the dinner). Why?
Because research shows that seven out of 10 adults under 45 report AI is helping them achieve their life goals.
Not productivity goals or efficiency metrics… life goals.
As solopreneurs, that’s the insight we can TAKE from this campaign.
People don’t get emotional about tools or services.
They get emotional about WHO they become using them.
🚀 3 simple ways you can sell with feels
Take notes and steal these:
1) Rewrite your services as mini-movies
❌ Don’t do this: “Email copywriting services”
✅ Do this instead: “I wrote an email sequence that got a founder their first 100 customers in 30 days”
👍 Why it works: Stories create mental images. Your audience should see themselves in the outcome.
2) Lead with the pain point, not your process
❌ Don’t do this: “I built a landing page with conversion-optimised sections”
✅ Do this instead: “I helped a coach book out their calendar in 3 weeks after 6 months of no appointments”
👍 Why it works: Nobody remembers your method. They remember how you made the pain stop. Show the stuck moment. That sells the breakthrough.
3) Replace metrics with milestones
❌ Don’t do this: “Increased revenue by 40%”
✅ Do this instead: “Finally quit her 9-5” or “Hired their first team member” or “Said no to a toxic client without feeling guilty”
👍 Why it works: Life milestones create emotional anchors. Numbers create comparisons. Your client wants to feel different.
👇 Proof it works
This review came in last week from a client who hired me to write their emails.
Notice what they valued most?
“Human sounding copy is so rare these days”
They hired me because AI-generated copy feels hollow and human writing feels like relief. That’s the edge. That’s what you can’t automate.
💡 Your Friday takeaway
OpenAI’s first global campaign reminds us that even the world’s biggest AI company wants their products to feel human.
The fastest way to stand out as isn’t to look futuristic.
Show you understand everyday struggles and frame your services as the solution.
TL;DR: ChatGPT’s first campaign avoids the sci-fi clichés and tells small, cinematic human stories. For solopreneurs, the lesson is simple: emotion and relatability will always sell better than features and futurism.
See you next week 🚀
